Gerilyn Bielakiewicz is a Certified Pet Dog Trainer and a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers. She and her husband Paul Bielakiewicz own and operate Canine University in Malden, Massachusetts. Gerilyn has been teaching people to train their dogs for the past 15 years in both group classes and private settings. She teaches clicker training in all of her classes and incorporates the same principles in teaching the human half of the team. She is the author of several books including The Everything Dog Training and Tricks Book, The Everything Golden Retriever (co-authored with Paul), The Only Dog Training Book You'll Ever Need, and The Only Dog Tricks Book You'll Ever Need. In addition to teaching and coaching people, she also breeds and raises Golden retrievers under the kennel name Pine Springs Goldens. In her spare time she competes with her own dogs in agility, obedience, and field. She has trained and coached all of her current instructors and volunteers, many of whom have been with her for 8 -10 years.

Gerilyn has been training and raising dogs since she was a preteen. Her deep affection for animals and people first led her through a career as a veterinary technician and then to volunteer positions at the New England Aquarium, the Stone Zoo, and Tufts Large Animal Hospital in Grafton, MA. Gerilyn has extensive experience handling and caring for exotic animals; she was once part of a pilot program at the New England Aquarium raising black-footed penguin chicks. After a brief career in the biotechnology field as an assistant scientist, she decided to go back to veterinary medicine and started training dogs privately on the side. What started as a hobby soon became a passion for helping dogs and their people live more harmoniously. And so Canine University was born. Gerilyn's passion lies in helping people discover the joy of training their dogs to be a part of their family. She specializes in helping people raise their puppies to be behaviorally healthy and in making the puppy experience as pleasant as possible for all parties involved. Her motto "owning a dog should be joyful" has carried over into her new hobby of breeding Golden retrievers. Under the kennel name Pine Springs Goldens, she breeds, raises, and trains her puppies to be social and behavioral icons for the breed. Having spent many hours counseling people of reactive, aggressive, under-socialized, or otherwise difficult dogs, she is adamant that each puppy that crosses her threshold gets the best start in life possible. She is constantly seeking more information, attending seminars, keeping current on periodicals, and trying out new ideas and techniques. The curriculum at Canine University experiments with what works for different groups of people and their dogs. Gerilyn's greatest joy comes from "wow" moments when she sees a new application for an old idea. Training people to train dogs is about innovation, because no two days are ever the same.
