Julie Shaw used and taught aversive training methods for 5 years until one day she put down the choke collar and stopped training entirely. Aversive training just wasn’t for her anymore, but, at the time, she didn’t know what other options there were—that was in 1992. In 1993 her son Dylan was born at 26 weeks gestation. Ten months later he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and Julie started searching for a service dog for Dylan. After being turned down by 22 organizations, Julie decided that if it was going to happen she would have to do it herself. When someone mentioned the term “clicker training,” Julie found the answer she was looking for and never looked back. She took the new technique into veterinary hospitals, started her own training business, trained two fabulous service dogs for her son, and relocated to Purdue University to continue teaching the techniques to clients and veterinary/veterinary technician students.

Laura believes wholeheartedly in the ability of clicker training techniques to improve not only a dog's behavior, but human interaction as well. She has a special enthusiasm for working with what others consider "over the top" dogs, too energetic and too rambunctious to be controlled with conventional means!
