- Summary
Deanna Dalton is a Licensed Veterinary Technician with a passion for helping young puppies become great family dogs. Deanna has been training dogs since she was a teenager, and instructing group classes since the early 1980s. With a background in competitive obedience, she has been using clicker training with her personal dogs for over a decade now. Deanna enjoys teaching puppy owners how to raise a great family dog, clicker style.
- Bio
Deanna's love of dogs started early, as she fostered a guide dog puppy and participated in 4-H. Her love of dog training led her to acquire her own dog and compete in AKC obedience events, while also helping others to train their dogs. Deanna has many years of experience teaching group classes to pet owners and persons wishing to enter AKC obedience events.
Deanna is always learning and growing as a trainer. She has evolved from her original background of compulsion training, learned 30 years ago, to positive reinforcement-type training, and finally to the scientific approach of using a marker signal, commonly known as clicker training. Deanna has been clicking with her own dogs (both large and small breeds) for over a decade, and has been teaching group classes using this method for several years.
As Deanna's love of dogs continued to grow she decided to raise a few litters of puppies, and experienced the importance of early puppy education firsthand. For her, clicker training starts in the litter, with house-training and simple behaviors like sit reinforced as early as 4-5 weeks of age. Deanna really believes that this gives the puppies she raises an edge, and gives their new owners a solid and clear way to communicate with their new puppies.
Deanna takes these experiences with her to each class, where she helps new puppy owners start to shape young puppies during their formative weeks, and then throughout their lives, as they become well-mannered family companions and working dogs.
