I have worked in the animal field over 22 years and have been training exotic and domestic animals for 16 years. My experience includes working as an animal trainer and educator/guide for the Zoological Society of San Diego, an adoption counselor for San Diego Humane Society and SPCA, an intern and keeper at The Santa Ana Zoo at Prentice Park and an elephant caregiver for The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee.
I graduated from California State University, Long Beach, where I received a bachelor of arts in psychology, with a minor in biology and an emphasis on animal behavior. In January 2013, I became a Karen Pryor Academy for Animal Training & Behavior (KPA) Certified Training Partner (CTP).
Having worked with nearly every animal imaginable, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to training animals. I can train any animal—a domestic animal such as a dog, cat, or horse or an exotic animal such as an elephant, cheetah, or wolf. The principles and applications are the same for each animal. I use positive reinforcement based on operant conditioning and clicker training to achieve desired results. I don’t use aversive training, dominance, or punishment. It’s all positive.
Animals enjoy clicker training because it is a fun, interactive, and enjoyable way for them to learn. My animal students always look forward to their training. I think back to my favorite teachers in school and they were always the ones who taught in a fun, creative way. That is the type of teacher I am!
I look forward to helping you acheive your training needs and goals!
