My name is Rose Browne and I've been involved with training dogs since 1995. I was trained and certified in another training method until I discovered the world of operant conditioning or clicker training. The science behind this training has given me a better understanding of animal behavior and of how animals learn.
My research and study of operant conditioning and behavior began more than four years ago and led me to the Dog Trainer Program at Karen Pryor Academy for Animal Training & Behavior (KPA). I was accepted into the intensive training program in the summer of 2011. I've learned how to work with all kinds of animals using operant conditioning by training a turtle for the KPA program and by training chickens at Terry Ryan's Chicken Training Camp in Sequim, WA. I graduated with distinction from the KPA Dog Trainer Program in April of 2012, earning the title Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner (KPA CTP). In addition to being a KPA CTP, I am also a Professional Member in the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), the Association for Force Free Pet Professionals, the Canadian Association of Pet Professional Dog Trainers (CAPPDT), the Behavior Education Network and Doggone Safe,
I'm proud to say that I'm the first KPA CTP in Newfoundland and Labrador! I'm looking forward to educating and coaching people on how to build a trusting relationship with their dogs based on positive reinforcement and without the use of force.
