I've been training dogs for more than 20 years. As a teenager, I competed in obedience trials and canine musical freestyle with my golden retrievers. Later, I had a greyhound I trained in agility, freestyle, and competitive obedience and showed in conformation. My dogs have won many titles and awards. When I was 16, I appeared on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart with my golden retriever, Penny!
In 2011, I started assisting and apprenticing for several different dog-training instructors through the Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA). A few years later I started teaching classes for the FCPA. I taught or assisted teaching all levels of obedience, agility, rally, and flyball. In 2014, I founded my own business, Sterling Silver Canine Coaching, LLC, which is licensed, bonded, and insured. Since then I have dedicated myself to gaining more formal education in the field of dog training. In addition to being a Karen Pryor Academy Certified training Partner (KPA CTP), I have a career diploma in dog training/instructing from PennFoster career school, I am a certified AKC Canine Good Citizen evaluator, and I am certified in pet CPR and First Aid from the Pet Professionals Guild. I am a member of the Pet Professionals Guild, the Association of Professional Dog Trainers, and the Mid-Atlantic Association of Professional Positive Pet Trainers.
I have experience training, and helping others train, a wide variety of dogs. Most of my personal training experience has been with golden retrievers, greyhounds, Pembroke Welsh corgis, Belgian sheepdogs, American bulldogs, shepherd mixes, and pit-bull mixes. Through KPA's programs I have also developed an interest in training other species, including cats and horses.
