After more than a decade of involvement in dog-training activities, Claudia decided the best way to make a difference in the dog and human world was to become a professional certified dog trainer. Keeping dogs and humans together in their homes by teaching them how to relate and communicate with each other is the key to a lasting bond. It wasn't until Claudia adopted, Rocky, a Bichon-poodle mix (and a many-time returnee to the local Humane Society), that she truly understood the beneficial and long-lasting effects of using event marking and positive training to shape behavior. Rocky is currently thriving, enjoying his life in Claudia's home.
Claudia believes that it is important to give back to the community. Currently, Claudia is an active therapy-dog handler in partner with Zackary, her Bichon Frise. Zackary is a Therapy Dogs International Certified Advanced therapy dog. Claudia and Zackary have made more than 150 visits to assisted-living facilities. Claudia is also is a mentor to new therapy-dog/handler teams. In addition to her therapy-dog work, Claudia volunteers at local rescue groups, evaluating dog and human partnerships, conducting dog-behavior evaluations, and providing dog-behavioral training to the team of volunteers that handles the dogs on a daily basis. In the past, she has volunteered at local shelters and canine search-and-rescue organizations.
Claudia shares her home with Rocky and Zackary, as well as with a pug named Fiona. Neighbors often smile and stop for a chat when they see Claudia and her three dogs out for their daily walks.
