Deb starting her dog training journey in 2011 when Deedee, a high-energy Staffordshire bull terrier puppy, arrived. Deb and her boyfriend brought Deedee to puppy classes at the best puppy school they could find—Sit Happens! Companion Dog Training in Calgary, Alberta. It became apparent very quickly that Deb and her boyfriend needed all the help they could get! Deedee bulldozed her way around Bright Puppy classes, destroying props and putting dents in walls.
After Deedee and Deb graduated from Sit Happens! Bright Puppy and Let's Go! classes, Deb started volunteering with the encouraging, supportive, and skilled trainers at Sit Happens! Soon she started leading her own Puppy Playtime classes.
Deb was proud to complete the Karen Pryor Academy (KPA) Dog Trainer Professional program and be certified as a KPA Certified Training Partner (CTP) in 2015, along with several teammates from Sit Happens! It was a KPA first—all members of our Dog Trainer Professional program class were from the same training school!
Deb is also a member of both the APDT (Association of Pet Dog Trainers) and the CAPPDT (Canadian Association of Professional Pet Dog Trainers). She will be testing for CPDT-KA accreditation later in 2015. Deb has completed the Karen Pryor Academy Puppy Start Right for Instructors program, and attends as many seminars as she can to learn more about dogs and their people.
The nerdy one at Sit Happens!, Deb works in computer security in addition to dog training. She is very interested in the science behind animal behavior, learning theory, and puppy development and reads as many books as she can acquire. Deb teaches puppy classes, manners classes, WCRL rally obedience, and participates in Nosework.
