Dolcy's passion for all things dog has been lifelong, but her dog training journey began with a battle for a stray Saint Bernard that no one could save. This dog had a heart of gold and a ferociousness that was uncontrollable, even to himself. Despite, or maybe because of, his extreme bond with “his people,” Leon became reactive to all strangers, even welcomed ones, and to other dogs.
That experience was excruciating, touching, and painful, and it drove Dolcy to find enough knowledge about how to train dogs to ensure that the situation never recurred. Bite scars and the experience of wrestling a Saint Bernard, looking him in the eye while he's reactive to “prove she was the alpha,” made Dolcy realize quickly that dominance training was not the way.
With a little research, Dolcy found clicker training and has never looked back—except to wonder about how positive reinforcement training might have affected Leon. Using clicker training, the relationship that develops between the handler and dog can develop as far as one desires. The bond is incredible!
Recently, Dolcy has opened Tiviton Training Academy to share the benefits of clicker training with the community. Her goal is that people and their furry friends develop and maintain a relationship that is enjoyable for both. Currently Tiviton Training Academy is offering K9 Fundamentals 101 and Puppy Start Right Preschool. Private and in-home sessions are also available, as requested.
Dolcy is a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner (KPA CTP) with a great passion for dogs and their humans, and a strong desire to help them create the best bond possible. She shares her life with two two-legged children, four dogs, and two cats.
