First Name:
Gillian
Last Name:
Pirow
Summary:

Gillian has always had an interest in animals and has worked with dogs in a professional capacity since 2001. She believes in treating each dog as an individual, even in a class situation. Gillian’s approach is always one of kindness and sensitivity toward the dog. She believes that you can never stop learning and that continuing education is important as the dog world evolves.

Bio:

Gillian started off working for the Animal Rehabilitation Initiative and then became involved with Open Paw at the Cape Town SPCA. She trained volunteers to stimulate dogs both mentally and physically during their stays in the shelter. This role resulted in Gillian’s valuable hands-on experience and her lasting sympathy for shelter dogs.

Later, Gillian began training through the Cape Animal Behaviour Centre in Cape Town, where she learned about clicker training. She took puppy and adult classes and also became involved in behaviour work. Studying behaviour, in 2007 she completed her Diploma through the Centre of Applied Pet Ethology in the UK. In 2009, Gillian started Dog Dynamics, a popular training and behaviour centre in Cape Town.

In 2014 she moved to Kuwait with her dog, Holly, to work with clients on training and behaviour problems and has found it very interesting working with dogs in a foreign environment.  She is a practitioner member of the COAPE Association of Pet Behaviourists and Trainers, and is also a member of the Pet Professional Guild, has appeared on national television and radio in South Africa and regularly writes magazine and on-line articles.
