Tara is the owner/lead behavior consultant for Real Pet Behavior. She serves Volusia and Lake County in Florida. Real Pet Behavior is focused on helping pets and their caregivers live in harmony with one another. To do so, Tara focuses on science-based, force-free, pain-free, and fear-free methods to change unwanted behavior and train new behavior.
Tara has always loved animals, and always knew she would end up with work that included them. After her graduation from North Carolina State University, she pursued a non-animal career path. Several years into her career, Tara was blessed to find a stray Jack Russell Terrier (JRT) that looked just like Wishbone (a JRT from a show she watched on PBS in her younger years). When Tara had to seek help for some unwanted behavior exhibited by her adopted dog, she was led to change careers. She began to pursue a master’s degree in Companion Animal Behavior Analysis and Counseling, as well as several training programs and workshops.
Tara loves working with all animals, including dogs, cats, birds, horses, and even guinea pigs. She continues to develop her career through education and work with clients and shelters. Tara’s goal is to open a sanctuary that will rescue, train, and find forever homes for small terriers.
